Here I am again, trying to be "productive" while sitting at my computer. Since the last time I posted over a year ago, I'm obsessed with becoming a stamper. After my daughter convinced me that I needed to try scrapbooking, I took it one step further (with the help of a good friend) and discovered card making and rubber stamping. So much fun!
With that said, I'm hoping to resurrect my blog and hopefully post samples of my endeavors. Wish me luck!

More And More
You know, a friend of mine recently commented on how fortunate we had been when it came to snowstorms this year - we really hadn't had any.
Me thinks he spoke too soon!
Me thinks he spoke too soon!
We got hit again last night. Luckily the rain went immediately to snow, and we avoided the thick coating of ice. Just big, heavy flakes of snow. The wind did a number to the falling glitter, throwing it against buildings and trees who dared get in the way. Again I worry about my poor evergreens. They've taken so much abuse this year. Their limbs are bent to the ground and buried in snow.
People lost power again. There are so many people still sitting in the dark from the first storm, and now those who had finally gotten power back only to lose it again last night have to be devastated. My heart goes out to linemen trying to get customers back on line. Those men and women are truly heroes in my eyes. It has to be terribly frustrating for them to get one section fixed only to have it go down a day later. I think they all deserve a paid vacation after this passes.
And that might not be right away.
It's a long-standing wives tale around here that there's always a storm during the girls state basketball tournament - and that starts next week! It's scary how many times that holds true. I'm from a strong girls basketball area. My hometown held the record for trips to the state tournament for many years. I grew up running around in the upper deck of Vets Auditorium. Heights back then scared me about as much as my two little sisters threatening to beat me up. I wish I could say the same today. I had tickets to an event in the upper deck of the Wells Fargo Arena, and I barely made it to my seat without having a panic attack.
Anyway, I hope there are no more severe storms for our area. Our trees, our linesmen, and our spirit can't handly much more of it.
Till next time!

Whew!
We recently had a huge ice storm and many, many people are still strugling without electricity. Thankfully, I'm not one of them. My electricity was out a total of 5 1/2 hours.
The storm started Friday night with some sleet and snow flurries. By the time Saturday rolled around, the sleet had turned into a full-blown ice storm. Sheets of ice formed on the east side of my home, freezing the door shut much of the time. Now it's not that I wanted to get out to go somewhere, but I'm caring for my son's 11-week-old Jack Russell terrier, whose bladder isn't any larger than a thimble! So a door frozen shut is not a good thing. Even Martha Stewart would have to agree!
But I have to admit, for the most part, the dog was the least of my worries. My biggest concern was standing in my warm house, looking out at what the storm was doing to the rows and rows of evergreens I have on the north and west side of my house. The wind was beating their majestic limbs to the ground while the tops of the trees were tumbling under the weight of the snow and ice. So many years to grow, and then in an afternoon, masses of limbs left lying on the ground. I don't know if the trees will come back, I can only hope.
The storm wasn't all bad though. My son-in-law and granddaughter managed to get here on Saturday, and then gathered up my great uncle who was without electricity. My son had a friend and his son here, so I cooked for the masses at noon, and we spent an enjoyable afternoon playing cards and dominos. A big pot of homemade bean soup supplied some much appreciated WARM nourishment for nearby relatives which my son and his friend delivered.
Even in bad times, there is good around the corner if you just take the time to find it, make the very best of it, and SHARE it.
Till next time!

How Do I.....?
Okay, this is a first for me. My daughter has fascinated me with her blog to the point that I thought that I might create one of my own. No fancy schmancy like hers with music and photos tho. I'm an old dog and it'll take me awhile to learn some new tricks.
What I hope to gain through a blog is some contact with people who share the same loves as me.....love of horses, love of hobbys, and most important, love of my Lord and my family. I'm recently divorced and the thankful recipient of a double lung transplant - 3 1/2 years and going strong!
Through the patience of a good friend, I'm learning how to make cards, I enjoy scrapbooking via my daughter, I knit and crochet, and I have cross-stitch projects too numerous to mention tucked away in my craft room. I can't get enough of my granddaughter, Amazing Grace, and her parents are pretty amazing as well. My son is 10 feet tall and bullet-proof, and if you don't believe me, just ask him. He'll be happy to tell you! I'm a newspaper editor forced into retirement, and miss the daily contact with news and newsmakers.
Well, that's enough for a first. As I used to say in my weekly newspaper column,
Till next time!
