Whew!
We recently had a huge ice storm and many, many people are still strugling without electricity. Thankfully, I'm not one of them. My electricity was out a total of 5 1/2 hours.
The storm started Friday night with some sleet and snow flurries. By the time Saturday rolled around, the sleet had turned into a full-blown ice storm. Sheets of ice formed on the east side of my home, freezing the door shut much of the time. Now it's not that I wanted to get out to go somewhere, but I'm caring for my son's 11-week-old Jack Russell terrier, whose bladder isn't any larger than a thimble! So a door frozen shut is not a good thing. Even Martha Stewart would have to agree!
But I have to admit, for the most part, the dog was the least of my worries. My biggest concern was standing in my warm house, looking out at what the storm was doing to the rows and rows of evergreens I have on the north and west side of my house. The wind was beating their majestic limbs to the ground while the tops of the trees were tumbling under the weight of the snow and ice. So many years to grow, and then in an afternoon, masses of limbs left lying on the ground. I don't know if the trees will come back, I can only hope.
The storm wasn't all bad though. My son-in-law and granddaughter managed to get here on Saturday, and then gathered up my great uncle who was without electricity. My son had a friend and his son here, so I cooked for the masses at noon, and we spent an enjoyable afternoon playing cards and dominos. A big pot of homemade bean soup supplied some much appreciated WARM nourishment for nearby relatives which my son and his friend delivered.
Even in bad times, there is good around the corner if you just take the time to find it, make the very best of it, and SHARE it.
Till next time!
